A LOOK-ALIKE GARDEN
I have a friend who loves to garden whenever she can,
Knows where to plant things well and always has a plan,
She wondered how she knew what plants went best where,
As though there was an inherent knowledge hidden there.
She went off to distant Poland from where her family came,
Though not speaking the language they all met just the same,
Eyes met eyes of one old relative and a deep bond was there,
And she loved gardening and tended one with great care.
My friend had tears in her eyes as she saw that garden fair,
Planted just like the one back home now she knew from where
Came the inherent knowledge, it was passed down through family,
A bond of eternal love to remember through life and eternity.
I remember a ditty my grandmother used to sing working away
In our small victory garden on many an early warm spring day,
Thyme and parsley together will never really well grow,
So sweet rosemary in between always spend time to sow.
Plant lavender to keep the bugs away, basil keep on his own,
Tomato plants like being close together held up with a cone.
These things I do when spring comes along each year
And of forgetting my grandma there is very little fear.
