SEASONS
Did you hear the robin sweetly sing at the break of day,
Watch the sun awaken to see the glory of each early ray,
Did you see the dewdrops refresh each sleeping flower,
Hear the rustle of the breeze in each trees leafy bower?
Have you seen the geese begin their long southern flight,
In vee upon vee formation in a blue sky, a wonderful sight,
And too early notice the changing colours on the maple tree,
Much too soon we cry for summer to be flying away from me.
Soon the hoar frost will deck the land with her cold beauty
Filigreed bright coloured leaves, a lovely sight to all ways see,
But each sight saying in a rather kind and gentle way,
Summer cannot last much longer, farewell you have to say.
One morning as you awake fall has come for a while to stay,
She never lingers long enough she too soon does stray
To other realms so her harsh sister may visit for a while,
She always comes in ice cold beauty and in great style.
The only season I feel that far out welcomes her stay,
If she were a thoughtful guest shed know when to go away.
But come she will far too soon and then stay for much too late,
I wish that spring and summer could for that long be our mate,
Autumn even longer stay with her short glorious precious hours,
Then the year would be longer with her warm healing showers.
