THE CHESTNUT TREES
Have you seen the chestnut trees ? Perfect right now,
The white and pink blossom giving us a great show,
Reminding me of natures graceful candelabra so grand,
Giving a certain brightness across this fabulous land.
The trees seem aglow as the candle-like flowers grow,
You cannot ever mistake them wherever you may go,
Massive bows and branches showing beauty quite rare,
Great trees that nature gives to us her bounty to share.
The white blooms I am told are the horsechestnut trees,
The fruit is not edible as the petals blow off on the breeze,
But loads of fun can be had to play a rather silly game
And the nut loving creatures much food does always gain.
The pink blossom tells me a sweet chestnut is right there,
Later, delectable fruit will be scattered here and there,
I always try and remember where the pink chestnuts are,
For at Christmas they make the best of stuffings by far.
So in each candelabra I not only see great beauty there
But a bonus at Christmas dinner to all the other good fare,
At the moment I see sweet blossoms lighting up a dull day,
Then the smell of Christmas cooking comes slowly my way.
