More poems about Family at Christmas

        EATING OUT AT CHRISTMAS
One year, on Christmas day, we went out to eat,
Just Brian, Phil and myself, a nice special treat,
The food was very good and more than enough,
There was all the trimming and the fancy stuff.

The service was excellent staff pleasant as could be,
No cooking to do or piles of dishes from all the family,
Just sitting and relaxing after eating that great meal,
Then home again, but Christmas did not seem real.

No turkey for sandwiches or slices of cold pork,
And there were no visitors with whom to talk,
No trifle or Christmas pudding smelling good,
Even the fireplace was sad as we burnt some wood.

I went and cooked a turkey and pork the next day,
And Christmas pud and trifle also came our way,
Without any invitation all the family came to stay,
And everyone enjoyed together a real Christmas day.
