A SPIRIT WALKED CLOSE
A spirit walked close behind me to see
if her name was there,
I could almost smell her perfume, see
the colour of her hair,
A feeling of expectation as light hopeful
steps she quietly took,
A joyous moment in the temple worthy of a
place in my memory book.
Although the moment was brief my emotions
soared up high,
A waiting spirit visited us and I felt her
walk close by,
Maybe her name was next as the sacred work
was being done,
Another step to exaltation this sweet, waiting
soul has now won.
Many times you feel them all close, waiting
day by long day,
Hoping someone will enter the temple to
bring salvation their way.
I wish I knew the name of that dear sister
who came to wait
To hear her name whispered with care,
what was her birth date?
Did she see her name? Or had she often
waited long
So that she would see her name, then burst
forth into a song
Of rejoicing as each saving ordinance
was complete,
One step closer, be ready to weep for joy
at Jesus’ feet.

(Millicent) Ann Margetson 8 April 2004

(Sister Armstrong and myself knew that the sister was Petrona Sisa
Christened 13 May 1736, after the poem was written)
