POETRY ROOTS
Where does poetry stem from before the words flow?
Is it possible to grow if no feelings or emotions show?
Pain and sorrow start the thoughts quickly flowing,
So do love and compassion set your heart glowing?

Roots of true love and an ever kind beating heart,
Mingled with a love of nature all doing their part,
To water the roots of poetry so words will grow
Into gardens of feeling then sweet poetry may flow.

Roots fed by things we see and feel every single day,
Nourishment of great beauty gathered along life’s way,
A wonderful sunset could be like a four course meal,
More ideas will grow when it’s true majesty you feel.

A poem has a heart that will much too easily break,
When seeing hurt and sorrow a painful blow will take
Instead of rolling with the punches, roots grow strong
Off the poetry tree, then out flow many a verse or song.

Emotion is the lifeblood, the very roots of a poets heart,
To feel, know and experience, then words do their part,
To paint a picture of beauty, or help one cry a pain away,
Help someone laugh again, before the end of a bad day.
