Amazing Spider-Man # 141: "The Man's Name Appears to be Mysterio!"

Synopsis:
Spidey, driving through town in his Spider-Mobile, is pursued by the cops. He makes a wrong turn and is forced to ditch the Spider-Mobile in the harbor. Mary Jane spends some quality time with Peter. Later, on patrol, Spidey is attacked by Mysterio and tormented by illusions of his deadliest villains. His emotional state helps wear him down and he's left unconscious. Afterwards at the Daily Bugle, Peter learns that Mysterio died in prison almost a year ago and Peter begins to doubt his sanity.

Synopsis:
While trying to figure out a way to recover his Spider-Mobile from the bottom of the harbor, Mysterio attacks again, but it's just to taunt him. Mysterio's illusions start to seep into Peter's personal life; he even things he see Gwen Stacy. Sick and tired of being manipulated, Spidey discovers an image induced that Mysterio planted on him and uses it to track Mysterio down. Spidey catches Mysterio by surprises and defeats him rather easily. Mysterio turns out to be Danny Berkhart who used to work with the original Mysterio. It turns out as well, that Berkhart's venture as Mysterio was funded by J. Jonah Jameson.


Amazing Spider-Man # 143: "... And The Wind Cries: Cyclone!"

Synopsis:
Spidey thinks he sees Gwen Stacy again, but assumes it's an after effect of his run-in with Mysterio. Peter pops by the Daily Bugle to learn that Ned Leeds and Betty Brant are to be married. He's also recruited by Robbie Robertson to go to France as J. Jonah Jameson's gone missing and Robertson has received a ransom note. Before leaving for France, Peter and Mary Jane exchange a wonderfully romantic kiss that leaves Mary Jane stunned. In France, Robertson is attacked by some costumed goons who prove to be rather easy for Spidey to take down. Unfortunately, their boss, the Cyclone shows up and takes Spidey out of the action. Cyclone takes Robertson captive as well and demands a million dollars within 24 hours or both he and Jameson die.

Amazing Spider-Man # 144: "The Delusion Conspiracy"

Synopsis:
In France, Peter waits at the hotel until the kidnappers tell him where and when to exchange the money for Robbie Robertson and J. Jonah Jameson. Of course Peter figures that the best way to pull off the exchange is to have Spidey deliver the money. Spidey takes down Cyclone's goons and takes on Cyclone himself. Fortunately, with a bit of planning and preparation, Spidey's able to defeat Cyclone with a giant fan. He rescues Robbie Robertson and J. Jonah Jameson and tricks them into believing that Spidey is actually working with Peter. Back in New York City, Peter can't wait to meet up with Mary Jane, but learns that Aunt May is in the hospital and that Gwen Stacy is apparently alive!

Amazing Spider-Man # 145: "Gwen Stacy is Alive ... And, Well ...?!"

Synopsis:
Peter freaks out on the recently resurrected Gwen Stacy as he believes her to be an impostor. He then makes his way to visit Aunt who's in the hospital due to the shock to her system when she saw Gwen Stacy back from the dead. Peter learns that the Scorpion's been release from jail and has already gone on a rampage. As Spidey, he sets out on patrol and in no time comes across the Scorpion. The Scorpion proves to be a bit more than he can handle in his current emotional state. The Scorpion makes his exit believing he had killed Spidey. Fortunately, Spidey survives and drags his weary self back to the hospital where the police confirm that Gwen Stacy is actually the real thing.


Amazing Spider-Man # 146: "Scorpion ... Where is thy Sting?"

Synopsis:
Peter is still having a difficult time coming to terms that Gwen is actually alive. The Scorpion learns that Spider-Man is still alive and gets some help from the mysterious Jackal in finding him. Scorpion breaks into Aunt May's hospital room and Peter is helpless as he tries to confront Aunt May as to where Spider-Man is. Aunt May faints and the Scorpion tries to look elsewhere in the hospital for Spider-man which gives Peter the chance to put his costume on. Spidey goes on the offensive and really takes it to the Scorpion, not giving him a chance to fight back. He defeats him so badly that the Scorpion actually apologizes to Aunt May.

Synopsis:
Spidey survives the Jackal's deathtrap, and eludes the police. Ned Leeds and Parker track down Prof. Warren who leads them on a wild goose chase. Spidey takes on the Tarantula and defeats him only to be captured by the Jackal (revealed to be Prof. Warren).

Amazing Spider-Man # 149: "Even If I Live, I Die!"

Synopsis:
The Jackal explains his hatred for Parker and Spidey, and his love for Gwen Stacy. The Jackal clones Spidey and pits them both against each other to save Ned's life. Gwen's clone, disgusted at the Jackal behavior reawakens the Prof. Warren personality. Prof. Warren dies saving Ned. Gwen's clone decides that its best she leave Peter's life. The Spidey clone is left for dead.

Jay's Notes:
- The clone actually resurfaces in the early 1990s as part of the Clone Saga fiasco.
