Synopsis:
Kraven, who has seen him snubbed by Spider-Man, approaches the Gibbon and wants his help to defeat Spider-Man. The Gibbon drinks Kraven's potions which make him wilder and stronger and he goes out after Spider-Man. Spidey is caught off guard and beaten, but the Gibbon refuses to deliver the killing blow for Kraven.

Synopsis:
Spidey leaves the Gibbon in the care of a local hospital and turns his attention to his Aunt May. She left a note telling Peter that she need some time to herself after Gwen confronted her and told her that she was babying Peter. Peter begins to suspect that she may have been kidnapped and as Spidey goes out on patrol. Spidey runs into a bunch of thugs who were stealing a power harness. Their boss, Doctor Octopus, shows up and isn't pleased with Spidey's interference.

Synopsis:
An dangerously ill Spidey escapes from the deadly clutches of Doctor Octopus and the power harness is lost during their battle. Peter gets checked out by a doctor and is suffering from an ulcer. Nevertheless, he goes out as Spidey in search of his Aunt and unfortunately runs into Doctor Octopus who has started a gang war with Hammerhead. Spidey finds the power harness and with it is able to defeat Doctor Octopus.

Synopsis:
Hammerhead strikes and a weakened Spidey is just no match. Spidey listens to him tell his origin and is threatened if he doesn't join his gang. Spidey pretends long enough to learn that Aunt May is apparently with Doctor Octopus at his safe house. Spidey makes his exit and rushes over to try and rescue his Aunt. Unfortunately, she ends up knocking Spider-Man unconscious.

Synopsis:
Hammerhead and his goons storm Doctor Octopus' safe house. Spidey wakes up to find himself in the middle of this gang war. He comes across Doctor Octopus with Aunt May as they flee the besieged house. Spidey beats up on Doc Ock while Aunt May terrified by the incident drives Spidey off with a gun. Peter learns that Aunt May was hired by Doc Ock to be his housekeeper and that she's willing to continue taking care of the house while Doc Ock deals with the authorities.

Synopsis:
Spidey runs across the Smasher, a goon who out to destroy advertisement for a mayoral candidate, Richard Raleigh. Peter meets up with his friends who are going to attend a fund raising dinner for Raleigh. Raleigh vows to wage a war on organized crime. During the dinner, the hall's ceiling begins to come down and Peter does his best to contain the damage.

  • Romita's art just doesn't look as crisp under Mooney heavy inks.

Synopsis:
Spidey's webbing holds long enough for people to escape. Raleigh uses this disaster to further drive his campaign. Meanwhile, the Disruptor who sabotaged the hall's ceiling prepares the Smasher for his next outing. The Disruptor makes a public appearance looking for Raleigh, but ends up getting Spidey's attention which prompts a quick exit.

Synopsis:
The Smasher breaks into the Daily Bugle to kidnap Joe Robertson because of their pro-Raleigh position. Spidey drives off the Smasher and follows him back to the Disruptor. Spidey attacks and the Disruptor loses control of the Smasher who goes on a rampage. Fortunately, Spidey's able to keep up with the Smasher until he finally overloads. The Disruptor was killed in the Smasher's rampage and Spidey unmasks him to discover that he was actually Richard Raleigh who had apparently been suffering from some kind of schizophrenia.

Amazing Spider-Man # 119: "The Gentleman's Name is Hulk"

Synopsis:
Peter receives an urgent telegraph from a lawyer in Montreal insisting to speak with him about his aunt. With the Hulk spotted in Canada, Peter convinces J. Jonah Jameson to pay for the flight in exchange for photos. Unable to meet with the lawyer right away, Peter joins up with the correspondents traveling with General Thunderbolt Ross and the Canadian Army. The Army engages the Hulk and drive him off only to have the Hulk threaten a dam. Spidey manages to lower the dam's water level before the Hulk destroys part of the dam. However, the water engulfs them both.

Amazing Spider-Man # 120: "The Fight and the Fury!"

Synopsis:
Both Spidey and the Hulk survive the destruction of the dam and the Hulk decides to make his exit. Peter returns to Montreal and tries to meet up with the lawyer, but the Hulk gets in his way. He tries to drive the Hulk off, but ends up keeping the Hulk busy until the army arrives. Unfortunately, the lawyer is killed by one of Doctor Octopus' agents to keep him quiet and Peter returns home empty handed.
