Amazing Spider-Man # 101: "A Monster Called ... Morbius!

Synopsis:
Peter has no one to turn to but Dr. Curt Conners, once known as the Lizard, who offers him the use of his summer house in Southampton, Long Island. Peter takes him up on the offer and makes his way to the house. Unfortunately, Morbius has also taken shelter in the house. Morbius attacks Spidey and catches him off guard. Fortunately, Dr. Conners decides to pay a visit and interupts Morbius before he's able to feed on Spidey. Dr. Conners transforms into the Lizard and Spidey finds himself caught between the two of them.

Amazing Spider-Man # 102: "Vampire At Large!

Synopsis:
Morbius and the Lizard battle each other to see who gets to kill Spidey. Morbius comes out on top and decides to feast on the Lizard. Spidey steps in and forces Morbius to flee. Morbius' bite has somehow effect the Lizard allowing Conners' mind to rise to the surface. He and Spidey work to develop a cure and eventually discover that Morbius' blood holds the key to the cure. They manage to catch up with Morbius and extract some of his blood to complete the serum. Unfortunately, Morbius grabs the serum and escapes. Spidey gets the serum back, but Morbius apparently drowns. Spidey drinks the serum and is restored to normal.

Synopsis:
J. Jonah Jameson, desperate to give the readership of the Daily Bugle a boost, leads an expedition, which including Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, to the Savage Land. Once there, they discover a native temple and inadvertently summon its monstrous protector Gog. Peter and company are unable to stop Gog from kidnapping Gwen and taking her back to its master, Kraven the Hunter. Meanwhile, Peter changes into his Spider-Man costume and runs into Ka-Zar.

Synopsis:
Kraven gloats over Gwen Stacy and proudly announces that she is to be his bride. Ka-Zar and Spidey track down Kraven and attack. Ka-Zar takes on Kraven and defeats him while Spidey takes care of Gog. Ka-Zar returns to the Daily Bugle expedition while Spidey changes back to Peter Parker and rejoins the group.

Synopsis:
Humiliated by Spider-Man, J. Jonah Jameson turns once again to Spencer Smythe who lets him borrow his latest Spider Slayer. Jameson uses it to track down Spider-Man and attack him. However, when he has Spider-Man up against the ropes he loses control of the Spider Slayer. Smythe has taken over the control and uses the situation to steal the final component he needs in his latest plot and lets Spidey take the blame.

Synopsis:
Smythe has taken control of the recently installed police cameras installed around the city and sees Spidey without his mask on. Smythe then meets with several underworld figures who are very interested in taking advantage of the cameras. However, Spidey tricks Smythe into thinking that he was actually just wearing a mask under his mask. Since Spider-Man is the only one who knows about his scheme, Smythe corners him and captures him.

Synopsis:
Smythe shows off the captive Spider-Man to several mobsters to demonstrate the effectiveness of the spy cameras he now controls. Fortunately, Spidey frees himself, sabotages the Spider Slayer and warns the authorities that Smythe is using their spy cameras. Smythe tries to confront Spidey in the Spider Slayer, but it malfunctions due to Spidey's tampering. After turning Smythe over to the authorities, Spidey pays a visit to Jameson to let him know that he paid Smythe to create the Spider Slayer.

Synopsis:
Spidey rushes to rescue Flash Thompson who has apparently been abducted and after a bit of a fight gets him to safety. Flash tells Spidey that a group of Vietnamese monks wants to kill because they blame him for the destruction of their temple when he fought in the Vietnam war. Spidey turns him over to the proper authorities for his protection, but the monks attack again and get their hands on Flash.

  • First appearance of Sha-Shan who will later become Flash's girlfriend.

Amazing Spider-Man # 109: "Enter: Dr. Strange!"

Synopsis:
Dr. Strange meets up with Spidey and together they set out to rescue Flash. The monks prepare to sacrifice Flash to awaken their High Priest from a trance which they believe was caused when Flash helped destroy their temple. Fortunately, Spidey and Dr. Strange rescue Flash and when Dr. Strange frees the High Priest from his trance, the High Priest reveals that Flash had no part in the destruction of their temple.

Synopsis:
Spidey runs into a misfit named Martin Blank who can't find a break in life because of his apish appearance. Inspired by Spider-Man, Martin puts on a Gibbon costume and goes out looking for Spidey. Martin wants to be Spider-Man's partner, but Spidey just laughs at him and turns his back on him.
