ASL - INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES
APRIL

24 – “Painting Churches”, IRT Mainstage, 140 W. Washington St., 2:00 pm   Interpreters: Cathy Covey and Randy Nicolai. Tickets: 635-5252 (v/tty).
Successful artsit Mags Church comes home to Boston to help her Dad - once a major poet - and her Mom - still a major pain - move into retirement. She wants to paint their portrait and include it in her next prestigious show. Between poetry and packing, painting and cocktails, Mags is caught in a paradox, wanting to expose yet dignify, to criticize yet celebrate her fragile parents in this funny, powerful drama.

MAY
22 – “Searching for Eden, The Diaries of Adam and Eve”,  IRT, 140 W. Washington St., 3:00 PM  (90 min.) 2:00 pm. Tickets: 635-5252 (v/tty).   Interpreters: Jeanne Clark and Randy Nicolai
Eve yearns for conversation and closeness. Adam just wants peace and quiet. But after the fall there's an unexpected twist. The couple is thrust into the modern world, aging only 20 years in the process. They vacation at the garden, now a plush resort. Adam tries to rekindle romance and the chase is on. Beneath Mark Twain's wit and devilish charm, as always, lies quintessential truth. James Still, as always, captures your heart.
If you have any questions about the above shows, please call Chuck Daube at 925-3040 (v/tty) or e-mail at chuckdaube@aol.com . Also, if  you see any show or concert advertised (not listed above) that you want to see interpreted, please call the appropriate box office and request it, giving at least 2 weeks notice.

GIDC Men's Basketball at USADB Tourney
Thursday
Greater Indianapolis 78 - Sioux Falls 45

GIDC led all the way against an undermanned Sioux Falls team. Everyone on the GIDC team scored. Ronnie Scheible, in his 20th season with GIDC, made 2 3-pointers off the bench to fire the team up. Sioux Falls was led by Lad Baird's 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Friday
GIDC  79  Arizona 64
The victory over AZDF, a dynasty the past decade, propelled Greater Indianapolis into the semi-finals for only the 2nd time in Greater Indianapolis' history.

The game itself was a thrilling one with Mike Kent giving a dominating performance in the first half. The 6'7 center scored at will within AZDF's intricate motion offense against various centers GIDC threw at him. GIDC's long-time stars, Brian Bippus and Keith Wessthoelter were also on fire, scorching the AZDF defense for 11 and 16 points  respectively in the half.

The second half featured GIDC slowly seizing control after being down 42-39 at halftime. The offense began flowing thru Bippus at the high post area and PG Shawn Stringfellow was found open for several jumpers to propel GIDC ahead for good, 64-61.

AZDF began fouling Bippus, who made 8 of 10 free throws in the last 2 minutes of the game.
Bippus finished with 27 and Westholter chipped in with 22. Stringfellow had 13.

GIDC  68 Carolina  54 (Semi-Finals)
The tired GIDC team next faced a fresh Carolinas team only 2 1/2 hours after the draining game against AZDF. After falling behind 14-3 to begin the game, Daryl Thomas laid the ball-in to give GIDC the firstt two points of a 12-0 run to reclaim the lead 15-14.

The game was an ugly one, with Carolinas always spurting ahead by 5 or 7 or 9 points, giving the tired Hoosiers causse to find inner reserves to catch up every time.

After being down by 7 at the half, 34-27 and thruought the 2nd half, GIDC switched to a 3-2 zone at the 7 minute mark to counter the Carolinas' Freddie Thompson's hot hand.

The 3-2 defense and Bippus' taking over the game as the game once againflowed through him at the high post proved to be the turning point of the game as he calmly shredded the Carolinas' defense, finding 6'8 Daryl Thomas inside for hard-earned baskets. All game, Carolina's 6'9 widebody Timmy Teeters had virtually every rebound falling into his hands, but not in the final 2 minutes.

The final margin proved to be 62-54 with Thomas leading the way with 22 points and Keith Westhoelter's 18 helping GIDC advance to the USADB Finals for the first time in GIDC's 48 years of involvement of USADB Basketball.
