Indiana Deaf Wins National Honors
The Indiana School for the Deaf boys basketball team enjoyed a clean sweep of top national awards.
The Deaf Hoosiers were selected as the nation's No. 1 deaf team by four of the deaf community's most influential publications -- Signews, The Frat, DeafSports and Deaf Nation.
The Deaf Hoosiers won their second consecutive championship at the Clerc Classic, a national tournament for deaf schools, and the Central Schools for the Deaf championship. They finished with a 15-7 record.
Individually, senior Jon Mowl was the consensus Deaf National Player of the Year, and Keith Westhoelter was Deaf National Coach of the Year. Mowl was joined on the Deaf All-America squad by senior Lucas Van Dalen.
Four other Indiana Deaf students earned All-America citations: junior girls basketball players Amanda Krieger and Micaela Paulone, and freshmen wrestlers Hipolito DeLuna and Corey Burton.
