There are around 18 languages recognized by Indian Constitution. These languages are Assamese, Bengali, Gujrati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malyalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Panjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telgu and Urdu. Hindi is the national, official and main link language of India. Its homeland is mainly in the north of India, but it is spoken and widely understood in all urban centers of India. It is written in the Devanagri script, which is phonetic and, unlike English, is pronounced as it is written. India Today-ORG-Marg Independence poll (survey) conducted in August 1997 on the language: (Q1) Do you speak, read, write, understand Hindi ? Result : speak 66%, Read 49%, Write 47%, understand 71% Ability to understand Hindi includes a significant 79% in the east,30% in the south and 94% in North. (Q2) Do you speak, read, write, understand English ? Result : speak 19%, Read 34%, Write 34%, understand 31% (Q3) Do you think there should be one language across the nation ? Result : Yes: 61, No 33, Undecided 6% (Q4) Which language should be one language across the nation ? Result : Hindi 77%, English 8%, Others 15% Here Hindi as a one language voted by North 97%, East 83%, West 75%, South 31%. This data itself shows that how strongly Hindi is endorsed as a one language across the nation. Interestingly some handful mantle slave people (8%) endorsed English as a one language, It's shame for having these people in India, who do not even understand what self pride, self reliance and self respect is. Unluckily these 8% people are holding higher or influential position and directing our nation in wrong direction. These stupid happily accept Dilli as Delhi, Yog as Yoga, Ganga as Ganges etc, but laugh when any fellow Indian speaks wrong pronunciation of foreign language English. Why we Indian need to pronounce right English but foreigners are free to fit Indian words as per their need ? This itself shows that we are not confident as we should be. |
