COMMENTARY

Dear Mike,

It seems peculiar to me that Section 6-130 of the Salt River Code and Section 6-130 of the Fort McDowell Code should be almost identical. I think the tribes must have gotten together on this one. I'll let you know what response, if any, I get from them. Just looking up the laws was an ordeal. The Phoenix city libraries and the Scottsdale city libraries didn't have them. The tribes were offering to sell me the code books for $60 (Salt River) and $50 (Fort McDowell). I finally found them in the ASU library.

Basically if you cross tribal land without a gun permit, you have to store your guns unloaded and in an inaccessible place, so to reduce the inconvenience of travelling armed to Payson (across Fort McDowell land) or to my job (on the 101 on Salt River land), I am applying for these permits.
