Reuter's News Service released a piece on the War on Clubs. Citing a DEA claim that New Orleans is a test case to pursue a similar strategy around the country, Reuter's has demonstrated that the electronic music scene is under attack.

This e-mail list is the general EM:DEF list. Some people wrote saying they weren't getting enough updates on the case in New Orleans, or other information related to the expanding "War on Club Drugs". As a result, EM:DEF will now send updates every Tuesday and Thursday.
We encourage you to view the video footage of the DEA Conference held last July titled "Ecstasy and Club Drugs." In the video, the DEA outlines it's campaign against nightclub owners and promoters. We have edits of these tapes at: www.emdef.org/news.html
Finally, it is important to remember that our defense of nightclub owners and employees is not defense of drug use itself. The indviduals who own the nightclubs are not involved in the drug industry, instead they book artists and operate legal establishments for the purpose of providing entertainment. Both dancing and music are protected under the first amendment.
The DEAs strategy attempts to correlate the presence of a specific genre of music with a specific drug, and therefore criminalize the music. The War On Drugs has often stumbled upon constitutional issues, but typically these involve the rights of people who are somehow involved with the drugs. This new step of pursuing nightclub owners, threatening their property, and sentencing them to life in prison, is a dangerous way for America to begin the 21st Century.
