Scott,

We sent the request by certified mail, return receipt that required a signature. That should at least make the clerk take more than a few second's to notice that there's something unusual going on. I bet they don't get many voter registrations by certified mail.

I see three possible outcomes: (1) "no party" as you suggest (or "other", or "independant") (2) "LBT" (3) A valid party, but something other than LBT (ie "LBI", "ALI", "INC", etc.)

As to the reaction of "the opposition", remember what prompted this experiment. "The opposition" booted me off the ALP Governing Committee because they claimed that ALP, Inc. is a separate political party, and therefore my position as an officer of ALP, Inc. is a violation of the ALP bylaws. My argument was that ALP, Inc. is not a political party at all if (as ALP claims) the merger at the '99 convention didn't actually occur. They disagree. "The opposition" most definitely wants this registration to come back as a valid party, but something other than "LBT" (ie option 3).

If the registration comes back as "no party" as you suggest, it tends to verify _my_ contention that ALP, Inc IS NOT a political party IF the current ruling is upheld and the merger at the '99 ALP convention is declared invalid. If that is the case, then the ALP GovCom booted me without proper cause. Do you really think they want that to be true? If the registration comes back as "LBT" (option 2), it tends to validate the claim that ALP and ALP, Inc. are just two organizations representing the SAME political party, which would also mean that the ALP GovCom booted me without proper cause and would undoubtedly incense "the opposition". If the registration comes back as a valid party other than LBT (option 3), it tends to support "the opposition"'s contention that ALP and ALP, Inc. are in fact two separate political parties, and their "booting" m was done with proper cause.

To solidify that last conclusion, someone would need to register for ALP in the same format that Sharon used to register for ALP, Inc. (full registered name of the ALP + ALP's filer number specifed in the party preference field) AND then have it come back as "LBT". THEN you'd really see "the opposition" in 7th heaven, and IMHO justifiably so. If an "explicit ALP" registration were to come back as yet another valid combination (ie "ALP") but NOT LBT, it would mean that registering for an explicit organization is always different from registering "Libertarian" -- which essentially means that the experiment proves nothing in regards to whether or not ALP was justified in booting me off their GovCom.
