Agenda -
Introductions and Open Discussion
Keeping a Controversial Site Up and Running
JusticeFiles.org has garnered a lot of attention lately from both Seattle and national media organizations--as well as local law enforcement agencies--when the site published the names and addresses of local law enforcement individuals.
The site publishes only publicly-available information in an effort to hold law enforcement accountable for their actions against individuals and their communities. Despite the fact that justicefiles.org uses only public information, the site has endured massive attacks in an obvious effort to bring it down, its owners have been harassed in various venues, and its ISPs heavily pressured to get rid of the site.
In addition, the web site owners are also being sued by a number of cities who take exception to publishing readily-available public information.
William Sheehan and Aaron Rosenstine, founders of justicefiles.org, will discuss the problems that they've encountered and detail some of the approaches that they've already taken to deal with them.
Potential discussion topics concerning this de-facto censorship attempt and others like it may include such cypherpunkish topics as:
electronic and legal countermeasures
mirroring and duplication of the site, including eternity services, offshore servers, freenet-style capabilities and the like
other technical suggestions and assistance.
