Just wanted to pass along some facts & observations I picked up from last night's PCLP meeting:
(1) Peter was not there because he was in the hospital on a morphine drip after shattering his femur against a rock in the Salt River. Apparently he had to be airlifted out by helicopter. Zajac was "filling in" for him util he recovers. Those that believe in Karma can add this to the fact that Peter's car was totaled in an accident right before the State Committee meeting earlier this year...
(2) The Legislative session has ended with no success in the attempt to get the legislature to "clarify" the election laws (ie legislate ALP, Inc. into power). The key issue of tieing state affiliates to their national parties failed by 2 votes along party lines (all Democrats voted for it, all Republicans voted against it). Numerous excuses were given for the failure, and Zajac indicated they believe they may have better luck in the next legislative session.
(3) The national LP has registered a trademark on the name "Libertarian" and according to Zajac may now be willing to pursue a trademark infringement suit against those who use the name without their permission.
(4) The fact that John Buttrick was appointed as a judge was viewed as good because now he can't be involved in party politics. Zajac views Mr. Buttrick as the only thing that has really stood between ALP and oblivion, and now Buttrick is out of the picture.
(5) We shouldn't hold our breath waiting for the ruling from the court on the appeal. Apparently there was a requirement to notify some other branch of the government about the facts of the case since the constitutionality of a law was in question, and that other department has the right to file a brief on the matter. Then they could remand the matter back to a lower court...or not. Ruling could come any day or could be a year (!). Not surprisingly Zajac made the obligatory comments about how strong their case was and how unlikely he considered it that ALP would win.
Now remember...shooting messsengers is rude. :-)
