Monday was the last day of the 2001 Legislature for committees to = propose bills. Individual legislators had to introduce all their bills = by March 19, a day when 135 bills were released. More than 1,200 bills = have been introduced since the Legislature convened Feb. 5.=20
SB545 would set up a marijuana research study program and make the drug = available only to a limitednumber of people. The proposal was developed = by the Medical Marijuana Initiative Committee, a group of physicians and = pharmacists.=20
State voters in November approved a constitutional amendment to allow = sick people with doctors' permission to use marijuana for medical = purposes. A bill introduced last week by Assemblywoman Chris = Giunchigliani, D-Las Vegas, calls for marijuana to be provided by the = state to all qualified persons, not to a limited group.
