Since this matter is something I was directly involved with I'd like to offer a point of clarification.
Not only was Browne invited personally by me and others, he ACCEPTED the invitation in Anaheim. He told me PERSONALLY he would come, and then he used scheduling tactics to duck out when the chips were down. To be fair, Ernie Hancock also threw a monkey wrench in the works from the ALP side, y saying it was "impossible" to put Mr. Browne on the ballot to a Browne staff member. However, Ernie's statement was promptly corrected when a vote of the ALP GovCom indicated quite clearly it was _possible_ to put Browne on.
In hindsight, it is quite possible that Browne accepted the invitation in Anaheim knowing full well he'd never really show up. So much of what went on there was designed to lull ALP into thinking progress was being made, when in fact there was none. A reasoable speculation would be that the purpose was to prevent the ALP matter from coming up on the floor of the convention.
See y'all in Flagstaff; I'm outta here!
