Concerned Freethinking Individuals,
I've stated from the beginning that I don't consider the outcome of the upcoming "trial" and vote on my removal from the ALP Governing Committee to be of any great consequence one way or the other. Now, we see below Ernie's surprising and dire prediction that the "death of the ALP" will occur should the 3/4ths vote not materialize and I not be terminated on Sunday. Then Ernie goes on to say that it's a "rigged election" if the outcome is not to his liking.
When I was elected to the ALP Governing Committee over a year ago, I made no oaths nor promises save one: Shortly after joining the Governing Committee's email listserve I stated that if a majority of the Governing Committee wished me to leave, I would resign voluntarily. I placed no time limit upon this offer. It was a private offer made from me to the other Governing Committee members and does not rely on the bylaws for execution; it relies solely upon my own integrity. I am a man of my word, and given the horribly dire predictions and accusations of vote rigging emanating from Ernie, I feel the need to make it absolutely clear that my offer of resignation is currently and has always been valid.
Specifically: The ALP secretary, Tim McDermott, has stated that there are 23 currently serving Governing Committee members. Therefore, I hereby pledge that upon receipt of 12 requests for my resignation from current ALP Governing Committee members, I will immediately and unconditionally resign from the ALP Governing Committee. No "trial", no arguments over bylaws, no 3/4 majority, no "rigged" votes. 12 individual requests (no proxies :-) and I leave, plain and simple. I would appreciate receiving a reason along with each request, but one is not required. The requests can come to me via email to auvenj@mailcity.com, via telephone to (520) 790-5810, via U.S. Mail to PO Box 18076, Tucson, AZ 85731, or in person at the meeting on Sunday. The requests can come either before OR after this "trial" and subsequent vote on Sunday. Let me be 100% clear about that: I might be "acquitted" by lack of the 3/4 majority on Sunday, but afterwards asked by 12 GovCom members to resign and I pledge that I will do so immediately and unconditionally. So if anyone wants to see the "trial" occur because they think it is the correct process to go through, but also wants to be sure that I'm eventually ousted, they don't have to fear waiting until after the "trial" to request that I resign.
Now, can we all just breathe a big sigh of relief that the ALP isn't going to die on Sunday, at least not on my account? I'm sure we all feel much better now.
