in the saturday, april 14, 2001 issue of the arizona republic in an article on page 1 titled "family in blaze slashed, shot" about the murder of mary fisher and children in scottsdale arizona dps (department of public safety) spokesman frank valenzuela was quoted as saying "suspects in crimes dont have the legal right to refuse to cooperate with officers". that statement is a lie and totally false.
unfortunatlly as in this case the police often act under the mentality that the bill of rights does not apply to any one they consider a criminal suspect. but the 5th amendment clearly says the police can't force a person they consider a criminal suspect to cooperate with them.
