Subject: thanks for a valiant effort

Well, we were crushed by the mountain of money and media blitz of the pro-tax forces. We did all we could with our limited resources and time, but it just wasn't enough.

I didn't get the opportunity to thank everyone at the post-election "party." So, I want to extend my thanks to...

Roy Miller, Bob Hannay, and Pete Corpstein for working to raise the money that we used in our campaign (for what it's worth, it cost us about 30 cents per vote vs. a cost of $20 per vote on the pro-tax side). And to all those who donated funds--even though I don't know their names.

Ernie Hancock and Bob Anderson for printing the 100,000 flyers that gave our volunteers weapons to use in the field. And Bill Bowling for transporting the paper and flyers in his truck.

The flyer distribution team that included Don Ascoli, Rich Bank, DD Barker, Rich Bennett, Jim Brown, Mike Dugger, Gary Fallon, Becky Fenger, John Fenger, Ernie Hancock, Tim Jeffery, Mike Jones, James Kang, Kevin Knight, Dianne Kresich, Treg Loyden, Gail Martelli, Bob McKnight, Roy Miller, Dale Mukavetz, Randy Pullen, Cathy Reames, Mike Renzuli, Doug Rhoads, Mike Ross, Matt Rowell, Scott Running, Hal Semmens, Howard Sprague, Vivian Valle, Sande Weinstein, Jim Werstler, and Alan White.

Rich Bank, DD Barker, Leslie Berry, Jim Brown, Pete Corpstein, Mike Dugger, Gary Fallon, Becky Fenger, Jeff Flake, Robert Franciosi, Cliff Goodman, Ernie Hancock, Irven Holt, Mike Jones, Jeff Judson, Kevin Knight, Dianne Kresich, Treg Loyden, Pat Lynn, Bob McKnight, Roy Miller, Tom Neill, Randy Pullen, Cathy Reames, Mike Renzuli, Doug Rhoads, Mike Ross, Paul Schauble, Beth Schmidt, Gene Schmidt, Evan Scharf, Hal Semmens, Jerry Spellman, Howard Sprague, Mark Steele, Jeff Sullivan, Vivian Valle, Nancy Wendler, and Alan Whte for sending in letters and editorials.

Doug Rhoads, Jerry Overton, Scott Bundgaard, Alan White, Martha Fay, Richard Bank, Jim Brown, Gene Schmidt, DD Barker, Newton Rosenzweig, Howard Sprague, Becky Fenger, Vivian Valle, Phil Krinkie, Pete Corpstein, Pat Lynn, Tom Neill, Jeff Singer, Tom Heineman, and Roy Miller for their ballot arguments.

Sydney Hoff for sending out our taped phone message.

Doug Rhoads for lending us his sign materials and setting up the phone bank (and the people who manned the phone bank--even though I don't know their names).

Jim Brown for repairing our damaged/vandalized signs.

John Fenger and Ernie Hancock for lending us the use of their business premises for meetings and campaign activities.

Rich Bank for starting the De-Rail the Tax website and Paul Schauble for carrying it on and improving it. And Mike Dugger for adding Issue Briefs to the LP website.

DD Barker for her research activities.

Dianne Kresich for writing the radio ad and phone message and designing the Ahwatukee newspaper ad and Arizona Republic newspaper insert.

Pete Sepp of NTU and Sean Redmond of CSE for alerting their local members about our campaign.

Bob Schuster of the Tribune and Clay Schad of the Ahwatukee Foothills News for their sane editorials on the transit issue.

Vivian Valle, Becky Fenger, Dianne Kresich, DD Barker, and Pete Corpstein for carrying our message to the people at debates, neighborhood meetings, schools, radio and TV audiences.

Becky Fenger for her round-the-clock devotion to the campaign, taking the brunt of the phone calls (many of them hostile), fighting for media exposure, raising money, and handling crises.

All the others who helped without my knowing their names.

And the 35,000 Phoenix voters who made the effort to vote no to try to save the city from this colossal waste of tax dollars.
