Dear Mike,
I missed not seeing you at the Gilbert City Hall tonight, but perhaps it's just as well you were not there, because a certain Putz was there.
I almost turned back on my way from where I work in north Scottsdale to Gilbert because the traffic was terrible, particularly given that it was rush hour, but I made it there around 6 PM.
Monty and Bart were both wearing suits and ties. I've never seen them dressed up like that. The others were dressed more informally. I didn't carry a rifle on my shoulder like at the Glendale protest, but I did have a pistol under my jacket just in case we were attacked. There was no serious trouble from the public, just one fellow who argued with us for a few minutes.
There was some minor police harassment. Some stupid cop got it into his head that the sidewalk in front of Gilbert City Hall is "private property" and told us we would have to confine our picketing to the roadside. His sergeant overruled him after Monty and a reporter for the Republic inquired into the matter, and we returned to the sidewalk where we were originally.
Bart handed me his videocamera, and I found it quite simple to use. I know I won't need any of those public access courses. I caught the police harassment on film. Bart went inside and managed to catch most of Dunham's reading of the proclamation.
After it was over it was proposed that we meet at a restaurant at Baseline and Gilbert for a few drinks. Before we left, Mr. Putz was trying to be all buddy-buddy with me, though why I do not know. I responded to his inquiries with icy politeness, and he seemed to sense this and said outright, "What do you have against me?"
I did not want to bother with charges he would deny about chasing you around so I said, truthfully, "For one thing you disrupt our meetings."
He said, "I disrupt your meetings?" and then walked away.
It's a puzzle. Why would he want to be my friend?
