Just a note to let you know that the GOAZ does not speak for me, nor does the NRA. In fact, there are more firearm owners that do NOT belong to the GOAZ than do.
I am writing to reaffirm my earlier comments that HB 2095 must be passed as written. Only an unamended preemption bill can be effective in protecting the rights of ALL Arizonans.
Many people, in particular, poor African-American families, Hispanics, single mothers and the elderly, simply do not have the money to be able to afford a Concealed Weapons Permit. As you can easily see, gun laws can be quite racist and prejudicial. Of course, we could just tell them to avoid the parks, as the State Courts did to Ken Rineer of Tucson.
If we allow a patchwork of gun laws in our cities we will be creating unarmed victim zones. (unarmed victim zones are known today as parks) By doing this we only invite the criminal to practice his trade in safety, free from the worry that a law abiding citizen might be allowed to defend himself. Disarming law abiding citizens while the armed criminal is free to roam the parks with impunity, terrorizing people, free of the restraint of laws, would be despicable.
If Governor Hull decides to again violate her oath of office and deny law abiding citizens the rights enumerated in the Arizona State Constitution, Article 2, Section 6, and veto this bill, so be it. Republicans everywhere will welcome the knowledge of who can and who cannot be counted on to protect our guaranteed rights and not bullied into submission.
And in closing, should the Governor decide to legislate against minorities, single mothers and the elderly, it most likely will spell the end of any of her future political aspirations.
I urge you to push an unamended HB 2095.
Thank you for your time,
Dennis Hayward
