MCLP Notes: The E-mail newsletter of the Maricopa County Libertarian Party. Address: MCLPXCOM@AOL.COM Circulation: 28

A) MONTHLY MEETING REPORT: Attendance: 13. The monthly meeting was held as usual, on the third Tuesday, January 16th at the new headquarters, 4208 W. State St. 1) OFFICE HOURS: It was decided that the MCLP Office Hours would be held on Tuesday nights instead of the originally designated Wednesday. It just seemed to work better for everyone. Office hours are from 6 PM every Tuesday until the conclusion of business. 2) IT'S A GIRL: Mark and Jen Horning introduced us to the newest Libertarian in the group, their daughter, Honor. Congratulations. She spent most of the evening cozying up to Aunty Liz Andreasen. 3) A CITIZEN TAKING INITIATIVE: Ernie Hancock scheduled a meeting to present his plans for a municipal initiative drive in the west valley cities. The meeting was set for the next Tuesday, January 23rd at the headquarters; report to follow. 4) MCLP BALLOT STATUS: There was discussion also on a registration drive for the County. The deadline for ballot status is October 1st. 5) THE MONTHLY MEETING: There was discussion about the monthly meeting. It has been decided that the new headquarters, while superb for projects and business meetings, does not work best for an outreach-type meeting. A search has begun for a dinner meeting place for a Monthly Meeting with an outreach/ information program with a minimum of business. A target start date of April is set. Mike Ross volunteered to make announcements and help promote the meeting.

B) OFFICE HOURS - January 23rd Attendance: 15 1) INITIATIVE: An organizing meeting was held to start an initiative drive in the west valley cities, starting with Glendale. Ernie Hancock is spearheading the effort. The planned initiative deals with manual validation of votes. Since the Powers that Be are obviously moving toward a 'paperless' ballot, with no verification possible, all restraints on vote fraud will be history. Plans were laid out to get it done later this spring. A new rifle raffle was also planned to fund the petition drive.

2) BALLOT STATUS REPORT: Chair Tim McDermott also reported on a trip to the County Recorder's Office. As of January 6th, 2001 in Maricopa County...

Libertarian Registration: 6,303 0.505 % Total County Registration 1,247,868 100.000 %

Statutory Requirement 8,320 0.667 % Libertarian Registration: 6,303 0.505 % Short of Requirement: 2,017 0.162 %

3) We are busy lining up registrars to make up the 2,017 deficit by the October 1st deadline. Bob Anderson reiterated his pledge to match contributions for a registration drive up to $1,000 if it is begun before the hot weather. If you wish to contribute, e-mail your pledge (of time or money) to us at MCLPXCOM@AOL.COM.

C) ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1) Chair Tim McDermott appointed First Vice-chair Ricky Duncan as the MCLP representative to the ALP Governing Committee. Tim is also the ALP Secretary and under the Party bylaws, cannot hold two voting positions on the GovCom at the same time. 2) Reminder: Office hours next week, Tuesday from 6pm till conclusion of business. There will also be another meeting of the West Valley Initiative Committee at 7 PM. 3) We have located the OTHER Maricopa County Libertarian Party. According to our information, it is meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at the IHOP at 19th Avenue and Bell Road. 4) The State Committee Organizing meeting of the Arizona Libertarian Party will take place next Saturday, January 27th, at 1:00 PM at the Quality Inn Ahwatukee, Elliot Road, just west of the I-10 freeway. 5) If you know of anyone else who might like to receive this or if you have any announcements, inquiries or information for the MCLP Notes, please send them to our E-mail address: MCLPXCOM@AOL.COM
