I arrived in front of the Glendale Public Library at 11 AM and found beginning a group of about twenty armed people rallying in front of it, carrying such signs as "Our guns protect your books" and "Reading is gun- damental". There were two media people with videocameras and one with a notepad. The primary dignitaries of the Arizona Libertarian Party were there, including DeStephens and Hancock. There were three cops there, all in an apparently calm and relaxed mood. I was the only one there armed with a rifle--an SKS. The others all had pistols. Earlier in the morning several of those gathered had checked weapons in with the police in order to enter the Glendale Library, and Ernest Hancock checked in a knife he owns as the rally ended and after a verbal exchange with the cops informing them that the library was violating Arizona law by not providing a place to check in guns. This is a critical point, because they were required to check guns in with the police and then journey to the police headquarters to recover them, rather than get them back immediately upon leaving the library.
The only bad feelings were that the librarian complained we were making too much noise. I agree that DeStephens shouldn't have tried to sing, but otherwise we kept it reasonable.
