Whose Line is it Anyway?

Ryan Stiles (right), star of WLiiA? and The Drew Carey Show and me, star of nothing in particular!

This little niche of cyber space is dedicated to a patheti-sad tribute to my favorite show, which luckily is improv-related, Whose Line is it Anyway?

WLiiA? has been described as:

"The most innovative and imaginative show on telelvision."

"A rare treasure in the chest of comedy."

"A true masterpiece of comedic brilliance."

"Simply wonderful."

"The single most important thing in the world...ever"

Ok, ok, so that was just me describing it, but still, you know it got your attention! Admit it!

Seriously though, the show, as described by an official letter thingie (please don't be thrown by my technical terminology) sent to me by Hat Trick Productions:

One of the UK's most enduringly popular entertainment shows, now in its tenth series on Channel 4. The show brings together four outstanding comedians each week, who improvise sketches and games inder orders from the regular show chairman. No two shows are the same; the flexible format allows for a variety of games each week.

Studio audience and platers are brought together to create an atmosphere in which anything can - and will - happen. The players must, with no prior knowledge of the possible situation, bring to life scenes and characters with speed, with, and originality, with inevitably hilarious consequences.

Basically, that is the perfect gist. Four funny folks make up stuff for a half hour and it's terrifically amusing.

The reception of the show with professional improviers is one of mixed emotions. On the one hand, some don't like the show because it only portrays the quick-game-gag type format of the art; others are simply glad that improv is getting its moment in the proverbial Sun. In any case, they would sell their soul* to get a shot on WL and for good reason...it's improv...on TV.

*Note: The creator of this page does not advocate the selling of one's soul to the Devil or deity of your personal belief system for the sole (*rimshot*) purpose of becoming a contestant on Whose Line is it Anyway?. Now Oprah, that's a different story . . .

There are so many wonderful web pages out there to explain Whose Line is it Anyway? in all its magnificent glory and to describe every person who's ever been on the show and to tell you everything you wanted to know about the show (check out my links). So, I've decided to make my page on WLiiA? a bit different. A lot different. Totally different. This is the show through my eyes. My scrapbook of my experiences. ME ME ME! It'll still be entertaining, I promise, but it is completely self-serving - give me something! I now present:

WLiiA? and Me!

It all started with a young girl and her one true love - a little known British television show called Whose Line is it Anyway. Ok, maybe not her one true love, but she loved it all the same. This little girl started watching the show at the tender age of 12 and hasn't stopped since. The show made her laugh so hard she cried, even when times were bad; through moves and lost friendships, she had something to make her laugh, something to make her forget her troubles if only for a half hour. She never thought that she would ever meet people who knew about, let alone liked, WLiiA?; never thought that she would see tapings of the show; never thought that she would get on the show; never thought she would get the opportunity to meet the performers she had enjoyed all those years and thank them for making her laugh; never thought she would be creating a web page where she would ramble incoherently about herself in the third person....Anyway, I love the show and this is my story. So sit back and listen up!
