OCTOBER 10, 1997 MEMBERSHIP MEETING

"TOUR OF THE GIFFORD-HILL ROBSTOWN PLANT"

Membership Meeting / Tour Summary:

On Friday, October 10, 1997, the Corpus Christi Branch of ASCE held a joint meeting with the Texas A&M Kingsville Student Chapter at Joe Cotten's BBQ in Robstown, Texas. In attendance were forty-one (41) members, fourteen (14) students, and eight (8) guests. The speaker for this meeting was David Matocha.

David Matocha with Gifford-Hill Concrete Products explains the use of "zero slump" concrete in manufacturing concrete pipe and boxes.
Gifford-Hill workers use an overhead crane to lift formwork off a concrete box which had just been made. A minor amount of finishing is then necessary to prepare for the curing process - a matter of just a few days. The final products are then shipped to the end users.
An enlightened group of Corpus Christi Branch members, Texas A&M Kingsville Student Chapter members, and guests gather with David Matocha, and Steve Childs (Plant Manager) inside the Gifford Hill Robstown plant. Everyone enjoyed the delicious lunch at Cotten's and gained a lot of knowledge during the plant tour.
The Corpus Christi Branch of ASCE would like to thank Gifford-Hill Conrete Products for sponsoring this meeting.
