Marjory Stoneman Douglas

1890-1998

Born in 1890 in Minnesota, Marjory moved to Miami in 1915 where she lived until her death in 1998 at the age of 108.

In 1993, Marjory was awarded the Medal of Freedom by the President of the United States. In 1997, over a million acres of the Everglades were formally named the
Marjory Stoneman Douglas Wilderness Area.

It would be Marjory's wish that the Florida panther could flourish and live in freedom and safety in the wilderness area.
