a. Susan Chapman
Clarkesville, Georgia

Susan Chapman currently resides in Clarkesville, Georgia and serves as an instructor of art appreciation, drawing, and design for Truett-McConnell College. She is a graduate of Mercer University, North Georgia College, and Clemson University. Her love for design and drawing complements a twenty-year career as an instructor at the elementary, middle, and post secondary level. As a generalist, Susan enjoys the simplicity and directness of drawing. Her sculpted figures give form to the playful mood that resides within us all - a characteristic she considers particularly important in the creative process. "My art, as well as my teaching allows me to carry youthful characteristics with me into my adult life and take joy in the creative process that is perpetually unfinished."

b. Durinda Cheek
Ringgold, GA

Durinda Cheek is a native of North Georgia. She has a BA from West Georgia and a MED from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Working in watercolors and oils, she paints landscapes and architectural scenes from the south and abroad. Her work is represented by The In-Town Gallery in Chattanooga. She holds signature memberships in the Tennessee Watercolor Society, the Louisiana Watercolor Society, and the Georgia Watercolor Society. Her work has received many awards including Best of Show 2D in the 1996 NAEA Gallery Exhibit. Currently she serves as art department chairman of The McCallie School in Chattanooga where she teaches painting, Advanced Drawing, Advanced 2D Media, and AP Studio Art.

Stone Mountain, GA

Anita Cooke was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated cum laude with a B.F.A. degree from University of Texas-Pan American at Edinburg, Texas in 1976. She and her family have lived in Texas, North Carolina, Alaska, and Georgia. In Atlanta, she worked for United Family Life Insurance Company in publications/publication education. She has, also, worked in marketing and marketing research. In 1990, she attended Georgia State University and earned her art education teaching certification. Anita has exhibited work in the Texas Watercolor Society Show, the Brownsville International Juried Show, the Spruill Art Center Juried Show and several state and regional art shows.

e. Christy Green
Hartwell, GA

A lifelong resident of Georgia, Christy has spent over 25 years teacing art in the public schools of Hart County. She has taught at all levels, Kindergarten through college, and currently teaches at Hart County High School in Hartwell. She received a B.S.Ed. and MAE degrees from the University of Georgia. She is married to Leonard Green; they have four children and two grandchildren. Christy has worked in a variety of media over the years, including pencil, oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylics, silverpoint and most recently, egg tempera. Most of her work has a figurative theme. Her drawings and paintings emphasize realistic detail and the subtle effects of light on form and texture. Christy enjoys exhibiting and competing in juried shows. Her work has been included in shows in New York, New Jersey, Texas, as well as throughout the southeast. Her work has been published in "Art Calendar" and "The Sapelo Collection." She is a member of the Society of Tempera Painters, Tugalo Arts Guild, and the National Art Education Association.

f. Roscoe Jackson
Columbus

Roscoe Jackson is from Bryan Texas. He received his BFA from Texas Tech in Lubbock, and his MEd. in Art Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Jackson taught 10 years in the Detroit Public School System at the elementary and middle school level. Roscoe is a member of the National Art Education Association and its affiliate the Georgia Art Education Association, and the Columbus Artist Guild. He has exhibited at Miriam's Café and Gallery in Columbus, Columbus State University, the Georgia National Fair in Perry and various GAEA exhibits. Mr. Jackson currently teaches at Stuart-Quitman High School, in Lumpkin, Georgia.

Terrylynne Marshall attended Young Harris Junior College 1969-71; The University of Georgia, BS 1973; East Carolina University, MAE 1977; and The University of Georgia, EDS 1996. Terrylynne has been recognized with awards for watercolor, photography, sculpture, and computer art. She enjoys presenting at the local and national levels on her two of her favorite subjects: human anatomical artwork and computer artwork. Marshall has taught at the elementary, high school, and college levels. She currently works as assistant and manager in the computer and graphic arts field.

i. Theresa Mays
Conyers

Theresa Mays holds an art education degree from the University of Georgia and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Piedmont College. For the past 8 years, she has taught upper school art, Advanced Placement art and photography at George Walton Academy. Previously, Theresa taught in Rockdale County Public School, co-owned an art business, Art Expressions, taught private lessons, and painted murals. She served on the board of directors of the Conyers/Rockdale Council for the Arts from 1987-1994. Her hobbies include drawing, painting in watercolor, photography, and travel. She has lived in Rockdale County for the past 25 years.

Valdosta

Dr. Paula L. McNeill was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and spent her formative years in the public schools of Florence, Alabama, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Mesa, Arizona. She received a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Arizona State University in Tempe (1970); a master of Arts in art education/art history from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque (1972) where she studied the history of photography with photo-historian, Beaumont Newhall; and a Ph.D. in art education from the University of Missouri-Columbia (1995) where she studied with D. Larry A. Kantner. Paula has taught elementary art on the Navajo Reservation in Ganado, Arizona. In 1996, she began teaching art education and art appreciation courses at Valdosta State University.

k. Eleanor Neal
Atlanta, GA

Eleanor Neal enjoys teaching art for Gwinnett County Schools, painting and exhibiting her art- work. She is a graduate of Indiana University with a bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, and a Masters of Science Degree in Art Education. The Woodruff Arts Center Georgia Games exhibition: "Art in Motion '98" has also featured Neal's work. Her artwork can presently be seen at the New Orleans African American Museum of Art, History and Culture. Neal explains that, "Mutual escapism is what connects me and my work with the viewer. Through my art I create what I see and feel."

l. Nancy Olney
La Grange

Nancy Olney is a teacher at La Grange High School located in Troup County. She teaches courses ranging from "drawing and painting" to "A. P. studio art." Nancy has exhibited for a number of years showing work at the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum, Jasper Marble Arts Festival, as well as several Colleges and Universities. Her favorite mediums are egg tempera, oil, graphite, charcoal, and colored pencils. Currently she is combining graphite and colored pencil in order to create images similar to tinted black works and with photographs.

m. Mike Padgett
Marietta

James Michael Padgett has been the East Paulding High School Fine Arts Department Head from 1990-99. He began painting Georgia themes about five years ago. His wish in the near future is to contact the Georgia Department of Tourism and publish a booklet including his work as well as the work of his student's about places to visit in Georgia. Michael feels that it is important for teachers to also have an area of studio, art history or actively participate in an organization such as Georgia Art Educators Association. Many teachers have talents in many different areas, they all teach but some produce art; some study art and write about it, some help others with their professional development.

n. Helen Stone
Canton

Dr. Helen Fleming Stone received her A.B. from LaGrange College and her M.V.A. and Ph. D. from Georgia State University where she was twice named one of the outstanding students of GSU. She has been involved extensively with the Georgia Art Education Association including serving as president, secretary, treasurer, and historian. She has been named Georgia's Art Educator of the Year twice, the Southeastern Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Education Association, and, most recently, Georgia's Secondary Art Educator of 2000. Dr. Stone has exhibited in a number of exhibits and has work in a number of private collections.

p. Jan Ward
Alpharetta

Jan Ward was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and has lived in the Atlanta area since 1984 with her husband and three daughters. She studied drawing and painting at Bowling Green and Ohio State Universities, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from North Georgia College in 1993. An art teacher since 1994 for Fulton County Schools, Ward completed her Master's Degree in Art Education at Georgia State University in the summer of 2000, and is currently teaching art at Abbotts Hill Elementary in Alpharetta, Georgia. An oil painter, the first juried art exhibit Ward entered was the 1999 North Fulton Regional Exhibit in Roswell, Georgia, where the painting Rocks on Blood Mountain was displayed. Since then she has had paintings displayed in many other juried exhibits in Georgia galleries and fine arts centers, as well as the 2001 NAEA Electronic Gallery Exhibit, and two one-man displays at the Superintendent's Gallery in the Fulton County Administration Building in 2000 and 2001. Ms. Ward was awarded Third Place in the 2001 North Fulton Regional Exhibit for "Rape of the Land," and is a member of the Georgia Artists Registry.

q. Vanessa Wardi
Atlanta

Vanessa Wardi was born and raised in Oklahoma where she was surrounded by paintings and fine art that she found fascinating and inspiring. This led to the pursuit of her Bachelor's degree in Art History and a minor in Art from Mills College in 1978. She also completed her M.A.T. in Education in 1981 and did post-graduate work at the Art Institute in San Francisco. Vanessa currently resides in Atlanta where she has lived with her family for the last fifteen years. Time is divided between raising her three sons, working for the Carlos Museum at Emory in the museum education department, and doing community volunteer work. Previously she worked for Dekalb County School system as a substitute teacher in French and Art.
