This course,
CUIN 6320, is entitled "Technology in the Classroom". We are
a class of prospective and practicing teachers. This class explores
how teachers can incorporate technology into the classroom. We
develop "Web Quests", which are online lessons designed to
challenge internet savvy students of today. Students are encouraged
to research online and use other technological tools (computer generated
slide shows, email discussion groups, etc.) to make presentations of their
work. The New York
Times Learning Network is a free service for students in grades 3-12, their
teachers, and parents. Students can read top stories of the day,
take quizzes, and do research among other things. Teachers can access
daily lesson plans that use current events. Parents can use the site to
enhance their child's learning through the use of conversation starters and
movie guides. Kathy
Schrock's Guide for Educators is a categorized list of sites useful for
enhancing curriculum and professional growth. It is updated often to include the
best sites for teaching and learning. The
MarcoPolo program provides no-cost, standards-based Internet content for the
K-12 teacher and classroom, developed by the nation's content experts. Online
resources include panel-reviewed links to top sites in many disciplines,
professionally developed lesson plans, classroom activities, materials to help
with daily classroom planning, and powerful search engines. TEKS
(Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) The TEKS are the state
curricular standards that describe what every Texas child must know and be able
to do in four core subject areas: mathematics, science, social studies, and
language arts. Real
Estate on the International Space Station - Group Web Quest This group Web Quest was developed to enhance lessons on the International Space Station. This Web Quest is appropriate for 9-12 graders.
Dr. Math is an online
community of teachers, students, researchers, parents, educators, and citizens
