KILUSANG MAYO UNO (May First Labor Center) TAGAPAMANDILA NG TUNAY NA UNYONISMO No. 63 Narra St. Bgy. Claro, Proj. 3 Quezon City Telefax 4210768, 421-0986 kilusangmayouno@gmail.com News Release June 16, 2005 Filipinos are asking: Where on earth is Garci? Workers challenge GMA: "The entire nation is waiting, break your silence on the controversial tapes and surface Garcillano" The militant labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) today said that "if the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine National Police (PNP) can pinpoint the exact whereabouts of election fraud whistleblower Atty. Samuel Ong, then government forces especially Malacanang officials, absolutely know the location and condition of former COMELEC Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano, the controversial 'Garci' whom President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is talking to in the 'wiretapped' conversations." KMU Chairman and labor leader Elmer Labog said that "Garcillano is the weakest link on this controversy because of his notorious record as COMELEC official. During his entire political stint at COMELEC, he was constantly involved in vote padding and shaving. He was reappointed as COMELEC Commissioner by Arroyo before the national elections last year despite protests." "Malacanang has all the motives and reasons to hide Garcillano to evade public and legislative scrutiny over the controversial Gloria-Garci tapes," Labog stressed. "If President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo refuses to talk about the audio tapes, we are sure that Garcillano is now in the custody of government operatives. They are holding him so as to prevent him from saying or admitting anything about the taped conversations. His earlier denial does not absolve him from the massive election fraud that he pulled off together with the Arroyo camp." "Garcillano is an important player in this scandal, he must surface as soon as possible and answer the public's questions on the series of incriminating audio conversations between him and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, former Senator Bobby Barbers and other individuals from May t0 June 2004." GMA gags herself, wants everyone to keep mum about the tapes, including Garci "GMA issued a gag order on herself by refusing to talk about the tapes, now she's also preventing Garcillano and everyone to talk about the tapes and forget the scandal as if nothing happened." Labog said workers will continue to seek for the truth. "We demand President Arroyo and Garcillano to face the Congressional probe on the audio tapes. KMU will join protests on June 17 at the COMELEC office and on June 24 at Liwasang Bonifacio against Arroyo's illegitimate presidency." ### Reference: Elmer Labog, KMU Chairman, 0920-6388960
