Song Of A Single Petal: If the greatness of the Rose is the sum of it's petals, What beauty in each single one is then found, And if you look off into your inner distance, To your own answer you are quite bound, In the splash of morning dew and sunlight, The Rose opens her face to the world, In the life of Rain's beating heart, A single petal kisses a flying drop and falls, Deep red flare lined to pale pink base, The soft lines of color fall into perfect place, The rain turns to snow and cover's the petal's grace, Blanket of white Winter covers over, This tiny gift from God's infinite fold, Just one in a billion unique will be preserved cold, In spring the warmth and rains come overhead, Wash away the snow from the Lady Bug's bed, She sleeps upon the gift of Rose unaware of the sight, Soft curves of red on red in a world too small and light, And watches with compounding eyes, The new growing petals and their thorny delight, A season of the small unnoticed and unsaid, Until the eye of a poet saw a drifting fall of red.
