Rosa centifolia (Rose Absolute)

Rosa damascena (Rose Otto)

Background: There are 2 varieties of Rose Oil, the distilled oil (Rose Otto) and the solvent extraction oil (Rose Absolute).

The Roses from Bulgaria, Rosa damascena, are reputed to be the best roses for producing a fine quality distilled oil (Rose Otto), whereas, Morocco is a large producer of absolute oils, Rosa centifolia. It should be noted that the distilled oils are best for therapeutic use. Rose oil is very expensive, as to make just one drop of Rose Otto takes approximately 30 roses. Roses are also associated with love and romance, and the Goddess Venus.

Properties: Antiseptic, antibacterial, antidepressant, astringent, antispasmodic, sedative, emmenagogue.

Precautions: Do not use during pregnancy

Physical Uses: Feminine reproductive disorders, PMT, Menopause, period problems - heavy, painful and scanty. Dry and mature skin conditions, thread veins, shingles, headache, migraine, earache, conjunctivitis, nausea, weak stomach, vomiting, constipation, liver conjestion.

Emotional Uses: Depression, tension, stress, insomnia, jealousy, fear.
