Background: Melissa is native to Asia, North America and Europe and is also known as Lemon Balm. The Greeks call it Melissophyllon, meaning “bee leaf”, as bees are very attracted to the plant. The oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and the tops of the herb.
Properties: Calming, uplifting, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-depressant, antispasmodic.
Precautions: DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY. Can irritate sensitive skin
Physical Uses: Cramps, muscular aches, insect repellent, soothes the nervous system.
Emotional Uses: Bereavement, loss, grief, stress and tension.
