Background: Marjoram is a Labiate and is native to the Mediterranean area. The oil is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves and the flowering tops of the plant. Marjoram is a herb used in cooking, and is closely linked with Oregano.
Properties: Antiseptic, analgesic, antiviral, antibacterial, antispasmodic, fungicidal, emmenagogue, conforting.
Precautions: DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY. Do not use in large amounts - can cause drowsiness and can dull the senses.
Physical Uses: Muscular aches and pains, cramps, sprains, bruising, headache, arthritis, rheumatics, menstrual problems such as PMT, dysmenorrhoea, amenorrhoea, uterine tonic, digestive problems such as colic, IBS, constipation, flatulence. Helps respiratory conditions such as coughs and bronchitis. Lowers blood pressure.
Emotional Uses: Nervous stress and exhaustion, fear and irritability.
