LAVENDER

Lavendula angustifolia

Background: Lavender is found throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, but it is mainly cultivated in France, UK and Italy. The best quality of Lavender is found in high altitudes. Lavender has been associated with bathing for many years, and was very popular with the Romans. This is one of the most versatile and gentle oils, and is one of the very few oils that may, in certain circumstances, be used neat (without dilution).

Properties: Antiseptic, analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-rheumatic, anti-viral, antibiotic, anti-depressant, decongestant, disinfectant, mild diuretic, carminative, sedative.

Physical Uses: Colds/Flu, decongestant, migraine, headache, sinusitis, bronchitis, earache, sore throats, respiratory problems, period pain, hormonal problems, rheumatics, lymphatic congestion, cystitis, neuralgia, general aches and pains, circulation, chilblains, bites, burns, stings, insomnia, skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, spots.

Emotional Uses: Calming, sedating, relaxing, balancing, helps with depression and is gently uplifting.
