CHAMOMILE

Background: There are 3 types of Chamomile Essential Oil - Roman, German/Blue and Moroccan. Chamomile comes from the Compositae family. The oil is produced by distilling the flowers. The reason that German Chamomile is blue in colour is because it contains a higher percentage of azulene. Chamomile is a very gentle oil and can be used on children and elderly people.

Properties: Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, soothing, carminative, antiseptic, emmenagogue.

Precautions: Do not use during pregnancy

Physical Uses: Headaches, earache, teething/toothache, diarrhoea, flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, gastritis, inflammation, skin conditions; dermatitis, psoriasis, burns, eczema. Muscular aches/pains, rheumatism, arthritis, irregular periods, painful periods, PMT, menopause. Chamomile is also often used in Shampoos to help lighten blonde or fair hair.

Emotional Uses: Calming, balancing, relaxing, nervous exhaustion, anger, frustration, anxiety, depression, hysteria, insomnia, children’s tantrums and hyper-sensitivity.
