Background: Basil is a Herb which originated in Asia but is now commonly grown all over the world. There are many varieties of Basil, and the Herb was extensively used in traditional Indian medicine. The flowering tops and leaves are used to produce the essential oil by distillation.
Properties: Uplifting, Stimulating, Antiseptic, Analgesic (pain killer) and a good nerve tonic.
Precautions: Can cause skin irritation and should be used with care. Not to be used during pregnancy.
Physical Uses: Migraine, colds, sinusitis, bronchitis, catarrh, emphysema, hiccups, indigestion, vomiting, gastric problems, flatulence, helps congested skin. May be used neat on snake bites or wasp stings.
Emotional Uses: Basil can be used to help depression, fear, mental exhaustion, hysteria and anxiety.
