A brief history on Arachne's Web Design. After I'd built about my second website, I sarted thinking that i should come up with a name for my sites. I put up a quiz on Violet's Vortex (my personal site) to see what people thought, but most people liked Vortex Design, which I thought was the lamest. 'Your Mom's Web Design' was also popular, but anyway.... So, in a moment of madness one day I decided that they should be called "Mama's Homebaked Websites". It's part of a couple inside jokes, too silly to go into. Anyway, I eventually decided that Mama's was getting old, so I started thinking of a replacement name. I remembered that in my poll, 'Arachne's Web Design' had also been popular, and anyway, I liked the name, so I went with it.
Arachne is a character from greek mythology. She's this mortal chick who thinks she is such a great weaver that she's even better than Athena (who was the goddess of handicrafts). Athena got pissed as gods often did when mortals got uppity, so she challenged Arachne to a weaving competition.
Being a goddess, she won. In punishment, Arachne was turned into a spider (or arachnid...get it?) so she would weave forever. Fascinating, I know.
Also, here's a quick overview of me, Sarah, Arachne's founder, president, secretary, designer, PR director...you get the point.
