![]() The Apathy Party's PlatformGovernment of the people, for the people, and by the people...Whatever happened to those ideals?   Politics these days seem to consist of the candidates telling the voters what they want.   Shouldn't it be the other way around?   Shouldn't the voters be telling the candidates what they want? That is the basis of our platform.   You won't hear us spouting our ideals, our wishes, our goals.   We won't tell you what we will do for you.   We want you to tell us what you want us to do for you.   The government is supposed to represent those it governs; we seek to make that a reality. What are the issues that matter to you?   What can the U do to make your experience here better?   We want you to tell us so we can represent you. We know that parking and tuition are important to you.   They're important to us, and we will do the best we can.   Realistically, there's only so much your student government can do about these things.   Don't let empty promises of lower tuition and abundant parking lead you away from the things that your leaders have much more control over.   Ask the candidates about other things and you'll see exactly what kind of candidates they are.   If they only think about the obvious "Big Two" issues, they haven't done much thinking. Having said that, let's devote no more attention to the matters. You may be asking, what can the Apathy Party do for me?   We will do what you ask us to do.   We also want to make the students here more aware of the great things that ASUU is already doing, such as the Book Exchange, the Student Discount Card, the ASUU Daycare center, free concerts, and more. We hope to improve and expand these services.   We hope to show that student government can be a powerful force on campus. Ask yourself, "what kind of leader do I want, the kind who just wants my vote, and gives me food to buy my vote, or the kind who really cares about me?   The kind who wastes a lot of money on a short-term attempt to win my favor, or one who will be careful with my fees, and use them in more far-reaching ways?"   We think we know what you will choose.   May the best party win! Please, tell us what you want your government to do for you.   Send us an email at apathyparty2002@yahoo.com and we will read it and get back to you soon. ![]() |
