We went down to St Pete on Sat to move the boat for JSI and to get it ready to be put in the water on Thursday. As we neared JSI, Kris asked me, do you have the keys for the truck? Of course I didn't. I had left them in the car at BWI so that I wouldn't have a problem at security. 2 Hours later AAA had a new key made for us and we were back on our way. When we got to St. Pete YC, there was an Opti regatta going on so that we could not get the boat in the yard, they actually had another lot for us to go to so that we could rig the boat. However, it was now raining and blowing too hard for the two of us to put the rig in. We decided to go to lunch. When we came out, things started to go right. The rain stopped and so did the wind. We quickly got the rig up and got all our other things done before we had to leave for the airport for our snowy ride home. Everything is set and we are ready for the NOODS.
Key West 2006 was a blast. Both from the fun we had and from the wind that we had. We saw a lot of interesting racing out there. We ended up 7th out of 19. No bad when the top 5 boats had pros or college sailors on board. Only Hyperdrive beat us without a pro and we are thrilled. Lots of carnage out there but little in our fleet. The Office got T-Boned and needed repairs but they got right back out there the next day. Hyperdrive got hit and broke their backstay and mast crane. Luckily, we had a spare backstay so that they could get back in the game. Blind Faith broke their boom and Dan did a masterful job repairing it.
We hit 19.3 on Tuesday which is now our new record. After that, there where times that we would be doing 15 plus for minutes on end. We never wipedout and put the chute up all but 2 legs. (1 Mike had fallen over and we were way behind and 1 we almost lost our forestay when the pin almost backed out.
There is more but time is short.
Next up we go to St Pete for the NOODs. (7-10 boats) |
