Character History: Michael is an alien from the 1947 crash in Roswell, New Mexico. He, along with his friends Isabel and Max Evans, and Tess Harding had been placed in incubation pods in the desert in a secret, hidden cave. In 1989 three of those pods "hatched" and Michael, Isabel and Maxl emerged, looking like normal human 6 year olds.
The three of them wandered together into the desert the night they hatched, and were eventually met with oncoming headlights. Max and Isabel held onto one another and Max reached for Michael's hand, but Michael was too afraid and too untrusting to reach out and grab his friend. He was eventually found and placed into foster care with Hank Guerin, who owned a trailer in Roswell. He met up with Isabel and Max three years later.
Michael is very untrusting of people. He even went so far as to steal Liz's journal once to make sure she wasn't going to turn them in. Max and Isabel were his only real family until he eventually accepted Maria, Liz and Alex into his life. He got a vision from a key he found in Sheriff Valenti's office, and the vision was of a dome in Marathon, Texas. Against advisement from Max and Isabel, Michael made up his mind to go there, and wound up kidnapping Maria and her car as means of travel. While they bickered off and on the whole trip, they wound up bonding when she told him that her dad had left her and her mom when she was a little girl, and that she, like him, felt that there was "something better out there for me than Roswell, New Mexico." It wasn't long after that they shared their first kiss.
Michael eventually broke up with Maria when she was pushing him about "where their relationship was going." He felt guilty, but was afraid that by staying with her he'd only hurt her worse later on down the line.
He is obsessed with finding out about who he is and where he came from, and even wound up getting sick because of his participation in a Native American ceremony called the Sweat Lodge Ceremony in an attempt to find out what Riverdog knew about the fourth alien Nasedo. In a state of unconsciousness, Michael saw alien symbols and a V-shaped constellation in the sky. During the healing ceremony his friends participated in to save his life, Michael shook Alex's hand, hugged Isabel, and passionately kissed Maria.
Once he was well, he tried to set things right with Maria again, though she was angry and hurt. Eventually they did work through some of their problems, but they didn't get back together right away.
Michael continued trying to find Nasedo, and trying to contact him.
He was physically abused by Hank, and when he finally had to admit it to Max, Max suggested he turn Hank in. Michael refused, afraid that it would draw attention to him and that someone would discover that he was an alien. Max and Isabel went to his house to see if he was okay, and Hank started harassing Isabel. When she threw a glass of alcohol in his face, Hank grabbed his shotgun. Michael used his powers and prevented Hank from hurting anyone. Hank told him he was a freak and to get out. Michael, angry with Max and Isabel for ruining the only "home" he had here, went to Maria's house and stayed with her that night (platonically). She held him and comforted him as he cried. He was later arrested for Hank's disappearance, but Maria and Amy DeLuca were able to verify his whereabouts and he was released. He packed his things, intent on leaving Roswell for good. Max and Isabel gave him the stones and the alien necklace they'd found in Marathon, Texas, telling him that it meant nothing without him. He stayed in Roswell, and with help from Max and Isabel's father, was able to get the court's consent to live on his own.
When Liz started getting visions from Max while kissing, Michael and Maria decided to experiment and try to make some visions of their own. Maria lied and said she saw various planets, but later admitted it wasn't true. He got angry with her, but they made up later on.
Tess Harding showed up in town and immediately befriended Isabel, and took an interest in Max. After Max told him that he had doubts about Isabel's new friend, Michael decided to check things out for himself. The house she'd claimed to live in was completely empty, furthering his suspicions about her. Isabel checked into things and tried to assure them that Tess was normal, and that her dad was also. Michael still had doubts, which were heightened when he and Max found a hidden camera in his apartment. With help from Alex, Liz, Isabel and Maria, the camera got planted in Tess's house and later revealed that she was an alien. They assumed she was the fourth alien--Nasedo in disguise.
Michael began having R-rated dreams about Isabel, whom he'd always thought of as a sister. For awhile they thought she might be pregnant, but when it was revealed that Tess wasn't Nasedo, but was actually one of them, she assured the group that Isabel couldn't get pregnant from a mere dream.
Max was later abducted by a government agency of alien hunters headed by Agent Pierce. Pierce tortured Max, trying to get Max to show him what the alien orb did. Eventually, with the help of the entire group, plus Sheriff Valenti, who turned out to be on their side, he was rescued.
When Pierce came after the group, he attempted to kill Sheriff Valenti, and Michael used his powers to stop him, accidently killing Pierce. Michael broke things off with Maria, telling her it was too dangerous for them to be together; that he, specifically, was too dangerous to be around. He told her he loved her too much to let anything happen to her. Then he walked away.
Max, Liz, Michael, Isabel, and Tess went to the pod chamber and used the healing stones on Nasedo, whom had been shot during Max's rescue. They healed him and he shape-shifted and took Pierce's place in the special unit.
The four aliens concentrated and used the orbs that they had found. The orbs conjured an image of Max and Isabel's real mother, who told them that Max was the leader of their planet, Michael was his second-in-command, Isabel was Michael's fiance, and that Tess was Max's wife. She told them that they had died on their world during the war, and their D.N.A. had been mixed with human D.N.A. and they'd been sent to earth to defeat their enemies there before they could return home and save the rest of their people.
