Luke further learns to categorize what of the froce he has percieved. Luke is tought by Yoda and Obi-Wan about the light and Dark side of the Force. He learns about the ligghts side of the force, and also the dark side through his encounters with Darth Vader and the Empire. Luke learns to categorize his actions and people he meats by whether they would best fit into the dark of light side (2).
In the final battle against the Epmire, and Darth Sidius, Luke has to evaluate his knowledge of the force and decide which side of the force he believs is the true and good side. Luke is presented with a dilemma of heter he should give in to his fealings, and try to slay the Emperor, ourlet him live and remain on the light side (3).
The symbolizing that Luke does with the force, and the dark and light side is very important. His lightsaber is the ultimate symbol of his oneness with the force, and the way he choses to use it. In the begginign it was blue which is a symbol of a pure good, and the red that vader uses is one of pure evil. Luke loses his lihtsaber however, and builds a new one that is green. This green lightsaber resembles the color of a blue meaning that it is truly good, but it is darker in color like the burnt re of a dark jedi’s saber symbolizing that he has seen and experienced the dark side (4).
Finlly, throughout Lukes experiences with the force, he tests his knowledge of it by attempting to overcome the various challenges that confront him. He uses the froce to feal the little trainging droid on the Mellenium Falcon, to try and lift his X-Wing on Degobah, to summon his lightsaber in the Wampa Ice cave, and to fight the power of the Dark Side exerted on him by the Emperor (5).
1. This exibits percieving becasue Luke did not evne know the force exhisted, or what it was. His selective conscience kept him away from the objective truth that the froce existed.
2. Luke’s categorization allows him to make generalizations about what is objectively good and bad without him falling into a habit of forming prejudices and stereotypes, becasue he learsn to get along with everyone from droids to Wookies, and even Sith lords (ie. his father after they kill the Emperor.)
3. Luke has to evalutae his knowlede of the force to decide what is the true and good path for him. Luke in a sense evaluates the truth of what he knows about the force.
4. In essence, Luke symbolizes his status as a Jedi with his lightsaber. The various colors of lightsabers that Luke encounters shows how someone has interacted with the force in thier perception, categorization of it, adn thier evaluation of how it fits in hier lives
. 5. Luke tests his beliefs in the force over the course of the movie by using his powers to see if they are truley the climax of human enlightenment. With each new test he re-evlauates his belief in the force.
