Challenges to Faith

1. One key subject in this chapter was the power of dehumanization. The power of dehumanization is the effect that wealth and items have over people. Most people live their daily lives wanting one item, then another. The Media plays a big role in this. Through comercials company's sell items not always needed, but convince someone that it is a necessity so he/she will buy that item. We live off of the items. A lot of people seem to like money more then anything else in their lives, so they do whatever it takes to get money even if it hurts others in their way. People use these items or money to get their own version of happiness. The people think that they themselves are happy because of the item he/shejust bought.

2. I would like to remember the unreflective unity, reflective disunity, and reflective unity. I found it cool that the writer was able to portray something in the church as part of our life. Reading over those descriptions were true for me so far. As I have started to grow I have become aware of my parents constant nagging and I want my own freedom. The way these ideas were taught seem to fit in directly with my life.
A second thing I would like to remember, is the Merchants of Cool video. Watching the video, I would agree that SLUH kids seem to be out of the norm of what the world is like. Most of us don't watch shows just because other kids watch them, we dont listen to music that others fore upon us. We may try to watch the shows, or listen to the music to see if we like it, but other then that we normaly dont do that.

3. This picture I believe shows the power of dehuminzation.

4.I think that the biggest threat to Faith is societal values. In our society people tend to not belive in a god, at least openly. So as humans we tend to try and fit in to a certain extent, but here it is by ignoring God even if we need him. We may just need to talk to Him but we choose not to, so we keep our "rep" as a cool kid.
