Gnomes
The
smallest of the civilized people, gnomes are known equally
for their inquisitiveness and their innate wisdom. Because
their native land (the foothills of the Ural mountains) have
been completely overrun by the agents of the adversary, they
have been forced to retreat into the civilized lands and have
become almost one-hundred percent Christianized. They stand
roughly three and a half feet tall, have grey to chalky white
skin and have silver hair.
Though
they are members of the church, they tend to be among the
more moderate members of the church - gnomish scholars were
the first to postulate that Correolan was an alternate name
for the Lord - and they have a tendency to see humour of the
Lord even in these dark times. They are a constant force for
reform, ensuring that the church does not stagnate and become
encrusted in ancient traditions what would hinder the war
against the adversary. Gnomes are also known for their melodic
compositions, making them greatly in demand as choir leaders.
The
gnomish are amongst the wisest of all people (+1 WIS), but
are not as strong as the other races - largely due to their
tiny size (-1 STR). Gnomes are resistant to magic, have infravision,
are experts in spelunking (as detailed in the PHB) and are
notoriously difficult for larger humanoids (Giants and larger)
to deal with in combat (+4 AC). Becuase of their stature,
they must purchase specially made armour (readily availible
at +10% of the normal price), though they are fully capable
of using standard humanoid weapons.
