Mage
Although
mosaic law forbids the practice of magic by wizards and their
kin, few deny the right of the Magi to practice their art.
Legend has it that when the Magi who appeared before Christ
returned to their homelands where black magics were practiced
freely, the Holy Spirit cleansed the 'Art' (as mages call
it) of all traces of Satan as it was the art that brought
word of Christ's birth to their far off homeland. From there
magic migrated westward, becoming a staple of ruling governments.
Magi today serve as wisened advisors in the Lord's army as
well as protectors of the land. A single magi, prepared for
battle, can decimate an entire fist of Goblinkin, and are
thus a powerful weapon in the Lord's aresenal.
Magi
are rare and are traditionally given a wide bearth by most
people - not out of disdain but out of fear of their power.
Without a doubt, most commoners and even clergy will keep
clear of a person who could turn them into something much
less savory than a human. For their part, Magi tend to be
anti-social, prefering the comfort of their libraries to the
hustle and bustle of normal life. Training is essential to
the magi, and every magi was at some point in time an apprentice
(most magi will take students gifted with command of magic
as apprentices for free in hopes of securing a favorable reputation
among their peers).
