Chapter 11
Acknowledgements
Dokusha uses the excellent dictionary files EDICT, ENAMDICT, and KANJIDIC
prepared by Jim Breen. These can be found at the Monash Nihongo
FTP Archive. Many thanks to Jim Breen and contributors for these
files.
The 16x16 and 24x24 Kanji fonts were also taken from the Monash
Nihongo FTP Archive.
Many features of this program were inspired by the JWPce Japanese word
processor. I encourage you to download this program as a
wonderful PC companion to Dokusha.
I used Squeak Smalltalk
to prepare the dictionary and font databases, and to prototype the software.
Future Enhancements
Version 1.5 is already stretching the Palm OS to its limits but
there are still a number of things I would like to fix or add to
Dokusha:
- Support for multiple installed fonts of a given size.
- Support for Sony Clie 320x320 screen with 32x32 and possibly
48x48 kanji fonts.
- Support for m500/Clie style memory cards.
- Reduce dependence on the 16x16 and 24x24 fonts.
- An index to speed up the English->Japanese search.
- Clean up some of the screens, e.g. Bushu Search.
- Optimize the DOC reading functions - allow compressed files in
SJIS format, eliminate need for line-info database.
- Make "Smooth Edges" preference work on greyscale devices.
- Automatic verb conjugation based on the EDICT tags (e.g. v5s).
- Speed up program initialization time.
If you are interested in helping me improve Dokusha please get in
touch with me. I plan on making this into an open-source project
soon.
