CBT is a form of tourism development where the tourism assets, facilities and businesses are own and managed by local communities for the benefit of individual and the community at large.

 

For the tourist is a way to gain deep insight of the village life and traditions.

 

Pondoland

 

Pondoland lies in the south/south-east part of South Africa within the Wild Coast.

 

Ndengane

 

The village of Ndengane offers various opportunities for active holiday. Nevertheless also the most tired will be at home thanks the peaceful and relaxed environment surrounding the village.

 

Activities available in Ndengane:

 

·         Hiking trails

·         Horse trails

·         Bird watching (Vulture colony)

·         River canoeing

·         Fishing

·         Asking people tourists can participate in helping local people everyday activities (ex. Farming)

 

The village borders the Mkambati Nature Reserve. It is possible, with a guide and booking, to across the river that divide Ndengane from Makambati and hike in the Reserve.

 

 

 

Other villages along the coast are: Rhole, Cutwini, Hili (Mbotyi), Manteku, Lujazo, Noquekwane

People will walk everyday from one village to the next one. Local guides will change in each village. An acceptable fitness is required to do the trail.

Development projects

 

The general aim of the development projects is to foster socio-economic development through the establishment of sustainable community-based initiatives.

 

The aim is to promote a number of projects in poor areas of Southern Africa.

 

The projects are:

 

  • Community-based tourism

 

  • Child grant access

 

  • Community Energy Centres

 

  • Community gardens

 

  • Adopt a school
