Buffalo Bills fans who ride the Metro Bus to Ralph C. Wilson Stadium have reason to cheer — they’ll be paying less for us army all-american gameGame Day Express service this season. A change in federal public transit rules is forcing the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority to either end premium pricing for shuttle service to Orchard Park or halt the long-standing service. NFTA Executive Director Lawrence M. Meckler said the authority is opting to lose revenue rather than leave Bills fans without a ride. “We didn’t want to end the service. It’s something we’ve offered since the stadium opened,” Meckler said. “But we can’t run afoul of [Federal Transportation Administration] rules, so we’ll drop the price back to regular route fares.” The NFTA has charged a flat $7 round-trip fare for its Game Day Express regardless of where riders board the shuttle. The switch to route pricing will drop the price to between $3.50 and $5.20 per rider, depending on their trip. Bills fans boarding the express buses in Niagara County will pay the most, while the cheapest ticket will be from the NFTA’s downtown Metropolitan Transportation Center. Fans of the Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, lunar lander game Seattle Mariners, Washington Redskins and other professional sports teams have seen the brakes put on their game day service, as transit authorities scramble to comply with new FTA rules. The revised shuttle regulations, which went into effect May 1, popit baloon game are aimed at ending what private transportation firms argue is unfair competition from public agencies. The new rule is also affecting specialized public bowmaster game transit service linking riders to cultural venues, racetracks, casinos and other special-interest destinations. Where private operators are filling the void, fans generally pay steeper fares than those charged by public transit agencies. The NFTA, which east and west shrine game scores averaged around 21 riders on each of its seven Bills buses last season, has never made money on the service, even with the $7 fare, according to Meckler. “Last year we ran buses for n-blox tetris game 10 home games and lost about $1,700 per game, so $17,000 for the full season. The end of premium fares will cost us $5,000 to $7,000 more,” Meckler said. NFTA executives hope the price cut will attract more fans to the shuttle service, helping to recoup some of the lost revenue. The NFTA board is expected to authorize the Game Day Express fare modification at its Aug. 25 session, formalizing the price cut in time for the first preseason home game against the Detroit Lions on Aug. 28. Meckler said the board members will vote ahead of a required public hearing on the fare change to avoid disrupting the service. “We’ll still schedule a hearing in September, but I can’t imagine we’ll hear much opposition to a fare decrease,” Meckler said. In addition to the downtown Metropolitan Transportation Center, other Bills buses leave from the game homepage the Metro Rail University Station, Thruway Mall Transit Center, Clarence Mall, Niagara Falls Transit Center, learning game system The Summit and the City of Tonawanda Transit polar bowler game Center. Specific Game Day Express schedules will be released in cartoon porn game time for the Aug. 28 game. slinstedt@buffnews.com Buffalo News Video Breaking News Video Breaking 24 Hour News Kim Jong Il may be gravely ill, jeopardizing talks No clear successor to Kim seen in North Korea No questions, please; Palin sticks to her script Obama: Bush's Afghanistan, Iraq plannj fish and gameisn't enough more >> More City & Region Stories Kevin Everett offers inspiration and video game console thankfulness Bruce Andriatch: Step by step, boundaries are overcome Agency calls for study of bridge to outer harbor U.
